An Appreciation
A CORRESPONDAENT WRITES :
A great Welsh lady has passed away in her 91st year, and no one which had the honour to know her can forget the impact of a real personality. In her youth she was known to friends in many lands, for her interest in all fields of sport. Her hospitality was medieval and it may not be fanciful to suppose that she felt the guardian ship of the Sacred Cup of Ystrad Fflur entailed such a duty. She lived for many years among her own people, content to do all she could for them, and so accustomed to give that it was difficult to offer her the smallest service for her thanks were so disproportionate.
The deafness which would have cut off most of us from our fellows was in some way transmuted to a greater friendliness and a more determined effort to break through to the essencial need of whomever it might be. Young people loved her and made the old feel young. Her eyes were so blue and her welcome something to warm the heart. Zest for life and the capacity to radiate happiness were hers to the end.
